These Are The Good Old Days
Meet The Family
The Sarkis family is as much a part of Bekaakafrah, as Bekaakafrah is a part of Lebanon. This tiny, enchanted village in the North of Lebanon is one of the highest inhabited areas in the Middle East, and a place we are proud to have originated from. Our forefathers showed us how to live in harmony with this precious land and ultimately inspired us to do the same and pass on that virtue to others. Our six siblings, under the nurturing hands of our parents, learnt the value of a natural, sustainable life by working in balance with the earth and putting back into it as much as we take from it. We pay homage to this heritage in our values and our name, Kamakan, which means “as it used to be.”
It’s this philosophy of “giving back” that has kept us rooted in Lebanon. For all its setbacks, this is a rich land, filled with promise and abundance. We believe that it just takes a few of us to maintain that connection and provide for our nation, realizing the potential of this resilient country. From its inception in 2018, Kamakan has had the privilege of partnering with like-minded growers and producers to offer our fellow Lebanese the best organic produce our land can offer. We truly hope that this small endeavour of ours contributes to a more sustainable community, and eventually helps to reshape our country. From our family to yours, we wish you a healthy, sane life.
Pure And Fresh
Purity is our main focus when it comes to the products we stock. It’s important for us to work closely with our producers to establish an honest relationship, built on transparency, similar values and high standards. Our seasonal products must be locally and organically grown to make sure we can guarantee freshness to all of our customers. The valuable connection we have with these clients allows us to listen and respond to any comments we receive. That and good wholesome food are what keeps our relationships healthy.
A Store For All
The Kamakan store in Ain Aar town square is our home away from home. This converted traditional house is the perfect reflection of Kamakan’s values and affinity to our heritage. The store space is filled with the most diverse range of local fruits, vegetables and organic products. Staying true to our beliefs, we aim to keep our products as affordable as possible with no limitations, so you can stock your entire kitchen or just grab an apple for a quick bite.
Pass by from Monday to Saturday and sip on a coffee while you browse the shelves.
A Break From The Norm At The Café
If you’re looking to get away from the bustle of the city and treat yourself to a flavourful plant-based bite, then take a seat at Kamakan’s cafe. Enjoy the garden on warm days or tuck into your meal in our dining rooms if you prefer something more cozy. Our chef incorporates all the best seasonal ingredients that we stock in our store to create our signature dishes from scratch. Our menu may change slightly depending on the seasonal produce, but that just means there’s always a new dish for you to try. We’re serving our amazing vegan meals Monday to Saturday from 10 am until 3pm, so drop by next time you’re in the area.
From Our Land
One of the most essential milestones of our project was leasing 2000m2 of agricultural land in the Qornet Al Hamra area of Metn in 2019. This plot was used to initiate our permaculture practice, which in short is the development of organic, natural & sustainable agricultural ecosystems.
Working in harmony with nature, utilizing natural means and tools has been a challenging but a very enriching journey. As with all good things, it took time to start reaping the fruits of our efforts come to life and it fills us with pride to line our shelves with our own seasonal Kamakan produce.
The Extended Family
We strive to build lasting relationships of trust and transparency with the people behind the products we sell. Since we share the same heart, mind and values, we prefer to see them as part of this ever-growing Kamakan family
